Why buy commercial nut butter's that are loaded with sugar and refined salt when it's so easy to make it at home?
Ingredients
2 cups organic almonds, toasted (cashews work too)
3/4 cup coconut oil
2 Tablespoons raw honey or pure maple syrup
1 teaspoon unrefined sea salt
Preparation
- Place nuts and sea salt in food processor and grind to a fine powder
(you can make healthier toasted nuts by soaking raw almonds in water & seas salt over night to break down the phytic acid. Then rinse with cold water and crisp them for 12 - 24 hours in a 150 degree oven. Make a big batch and store them in a sealed mason jar). - Add honey and coconut oil and process until mixture becomes smooth.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
- Serve at room temperature.
When you first make this nut butter, it will be somewhat liquid. Don't worry, it will harden in the fridge. If it's too hard when cold, try substituting 1/2 the oil for un-toasted sesame oil or expeller pressed sunflower oil.
